Western Canada's Only Horseradish Brand...Hee-Haw Horseradish!

Did you know that Hee-Haw Horseradish is Western Canada's only horseradish brand? Sure, some companies are producing products with horseradish in them...like mustard's and relishes...but as far as we know...we are the only company actively producing for commercial sale prepared horseradish from fresh root in all of Western Canada. It's a bit of a head scratcher at first...but the reality is that there is no supply, or limited supply, of fresh horseradish in Western Canada to source into a kitchen or co-packer like ours to produce any type of volume for sale online and in retail stores. That's because horseradish root comes from the Eastern States and Ontario where there's a reliable freeze cycle that the root requires to grow hot. So even if you were to order root from a food distribution company you'd be paying through the nose for it since they would have to ship in your relatively small supply to work with. It's a problem that we faced at the start of our business, and we dealt with it, but over time we've grown enough to be able to purchase our root supply directly from Farmer's, who for the most part are located in the State of Illinois. This opens up a whole other host of problems as you can imagine. The USD exchange rate and transport of a fresh vegetable are the two main ones we face still today. But with great partnerships in cross border ordering and cold transport we've solved one of them...the USD exchange rate remains as our biggest issue and is a big contributor that we have to manage in an ongoing manner. More about the costs involved in producing Hee-Haw will be explained in another blog post later. Today...being the only horseradish brand hailing from Western Canada is kind of an awesome feeling...and we hope you enjoy the hard work we put into bringing it to you!
